I’m Peter Vansteenkiste, a licensed battlefield tours guide based in Belgium, passionate about history, military heritage, and delivering deeply personal travel experiences.
Born and raised in Flanders, I’ve spent my life surrounded by the landscapes and legacies of the First and Second World War. I served as a Sergeant in the Belgian Army Airborne, and since 2014, I’ve been guiding visitors from all over the world — especially from the U.S., Canada, the UK, and Australia — through the battlefields, cemeteries, and key historical sites of Belgium and beyond.
I served as a First Sergeant in the Belgian Army Airborne (1st Para Battalion), an elite unit where I gained firsthand insight into military operations, leadership, and discipline. This experience gives me a deep understanding of the history and human cost of war — a perspective I bring into every tour I guide.
After leaving active service, I pursued formal education in tourism and guiding. I completed a 3.5-year certification as a Battlefield Tour Guide (WWI & WWII) through Syntra West, followed by a 2-year training as a Certified European Tour Guide. These qualifications allow me to lead both military history tours and broader cultural experiences across Belgium and Europe.
I am an official and permitted guide at several major historical sites, including:
Battle of the Bulge – Bastogne
Wellington Museum – Waterloo
The City of Bruges (for walking tours)
To stay connected to international guiding standards, I’m a member of the International Association of Tour Managers (IATM) and Tour Guides Flanders, both of which support professional excellence in the travel industry.
As a professional battlefield tours guide in Belgium, I offer more than just historical facts — I create personal, immersive journeys that connect you with the stories, landscapes, and legacy of Europe’s most important battlefields.
Personal Touch
Every tour is private and fully customized. You tell me what matters to you — specific sites, family history, time period, or pace — and I design a unique itinerary around your interests. No fixed routes, no group pressure — just your tour, your way.
Real Military Insight
With a background as a Sergeant in the Belgian Army Airborne, I don’t just know the history — I understand the mindset, the terrain, and the human experience of soldiers. This allows me to share a deeper, more meaningful interpretation of both WWI and WWII events.
Multi-Language Service
I offer tours in English, Dutch, French, and German, making it easy to communicate and connect, no matter where you’re from.
All-In-One Experience
You don’t have to worry about logistics. I take care of transportation, scheduling, and guiding so you can focus on enjoying the experience. I provide pickup from your hotel, airport, train station, or harbor — and handle everything from start to finish.
Air & Ground Tour Options
Want to see the battlefield from above? I offer exclusive Frontflights — aerial tours over Flanders Fields, Bastogne, Dunkirk, and more. Combine a helicopter or airplane flight with an on-the-ground visit for a powerful, complete view of history.
Take your battlefield experience to new heights—literally. Our Frontflights offer a breathtaking aerial view of Belgium’s most iconic WWI and WWII sites, guided by an expert battlefield tours guide in Belgium.
Choose from airplane or helicopter flights, each designed to give you a unique perspective on the landscapes that shaped world history. Every flight includes real-time commentary, pilot intercom access, and unforgettable views.
From private cars to 50-seat coaches, I drive or organize every part of your journey. I own my own minibus (8 pax) and midbus (15 pax) and work only with licensed, professional drivers for larger groups.
Pickup is available at your hotel, airport, harbor, or train station.
At Peter Vansteenkiste Battlefield Tours Belgium, we believe in honest, transparent pricing. All tours — whether on the ground or in the air — are quoted clearly in advance, with no hidden fees or surprises.
Whether you’re booking a private battlefield tour, a Frontflight experience, or arranging transportation, every detail is discussed upfront. Payment is due before the start of the tour, and tipping (around 15–20%) is always appreciated but never expected.
